The position of Curatorial and Research Coordinator is for the BC Sports Hall of Fame
and specifically the project of organizing, cataloguing, and digitizing the scrapbook
collection portion of the BC Sports Hall of Fame archives. This project will allow the scrapbook collection and specific content within our scrapbooks to be more available and better utilized for future displays and exhibitions covering aspects of BC sport history not currently offered to visitors. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is a non-for-profit society, founded in 1966 to establish a permanent tribute to the outstanding individuals, teams, and builders of sport in the province. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is located in BC Place Stadium and has 15,000 square feet of exciting exhibits displaying the passion and commitment of British Columbia’s athletes. Visitors are able to share the vision of those who achieved their dreams through dedication, talent and hard work. Key responsibilities include:
v Assess entire BC Sports Hall of Fame written documents collection that has been organized to this point
v Assess backlogged documents and estimate space and time needed to store and incorporate them into the larger collection.
v Assess current storage shelving for written documents collection and assess if modifications of existing are necessary or if more shelving is required
v Develop organizational plan for completing the organization of the written documents collection and put into place
v Conduct research on specific documents or individuals/teams/events featured in documents as required to increase background knowledge
v Determine significant or particularly delicate pieces in the written documents collection and scan these for future use.
v Enter information on backlogged written documents into master CMS
v Determine supplies needed and estimated numbers of each to complete project.
v Purchase and coordinate shipment of any supplies needed, specifically Hollinger archival storage boxes.
v Label shelving and/or storage boxes with location information or box contents for easier access and locating
Qualifications:
As a staff member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the Curatorial and Research Coordinator will learn many valuable skills and experience a unique work environment. Specific skills the job experience will help to develop include:
v Graduate with museum/curatorial/archival background in museum studies or archival/library sciences. With work experience in museums/archives, collection management, or research. The ideal candidate is looking a career in the Heritage sector
- Are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
- Are unemployed or underemployed
v Available from September 18, 2023 – March 31, 2024. Must be comfortable in a busy environment and be able to handle many different tasks.
v Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
v Must be comfortable with PC computer programs, have some basic knowledge pertaining to use and input of data into content management systems (CMS) software (preferably Lucidea’s Argus) or other basic database programs (Access/Excel)
v Must be able to work within a team environment and independently
v Interest or knowledge of sport or history isn’t required, but is a definite advantage in completing this project
v Successful applicant will have to create a YCW account and complete a Candidate Eligibility Form prior to hiring.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame is located in BC Place Stadium, which is located in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. BC Place Stadium and the BC Sports Hall of Fame & Museum are key destinations for visitors throughout tourist season. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is located near the Vancouver Public Library, Science World and Rogers Arena as well as many other popular attractions. The Curatorial and Research Coordinator will experience the exciting atmosphere of a downtown stadium as well as a busy tourist location.
