The Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society (Poco Heritage) is looking for expressions of interest on a contract to work with stakeholders in curating an exhibit on the topic of “Terry Fox: Inspiring Local Champions” and to develop plans for a series of rotating exhibits on the theme of “Inspiring Local Champions”. The exhibits will build on the legacy of hometown hero Terry Fox to inspire future generations to strive for excellence while serving the community in all fields of endeavor. The initial exhibit will be displayed in a newly designed, purpose built exhibit space at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre starting in Sept 2024.

The initial exhibit will be displayed in a newly designed, purpose built exhibit space at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre starting in Sept 2024.

 

Reporting to the PoCo Heritage Museum Manager, the candidate selected will work closely with project partners to curate artifacts in the initial exhibit as well as develop a plan for future rotating exhibits. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a detailed project plan for review and approval by the Museum Manager.

  • Work closely with the Terry Fox Centre, PoCo Heritage, City of Port Coquitlam, PoCo Sport Alliance, and other project stakeholders to develop exhibit themes and identify specific stories to tell through artifacts, text and images.

  • Develop cohesive narrative through all exhibits.

  • Work with PoCo Heritage staff to select artifacts and images to include in exhibits.

  • Write exhibit text panels and labels suitable for a broad audience.

  • In collaboration with project partners, develop themes for future rotating exhibits

  • Work with PoCo Heritage Museum staff and Terry Fox Centre to ensure artifacts are properly catalogued, handled and maintained to conservation standards and to ensure the integrity and security of artifacts while on display

  • Related duties as needed



 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in museum studies or related field (e.g. history, anthropology, curatorial studies), with courses in exhibit development and collections management.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience developing exhibits of a similar scale for museums or other public collections, including handling archival materials and artifacts.

  • Experience curating sports history exhibits an asset.Demonstrated project management and research skills.

  • Superior writing and communication skills, with experience developing engaging content for audiences of all ages, especially youth 

  • Experience working on collaborative projects with multiple stakeholders.
