JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
* Acts as work leader for the Tour Guides by: providing direction and training; resolving work problems among staff; supporting the preparation, coordination and delivery of training program; preparing work schedules taking into account time-off requests and operational requirements; assigning one-off jobs to tour guides based on their skill set and experience; maintaining time and expense records.
* Performs the same duties as incumbents in the Tour Guide job, and in addition: schedules and books tours; responds to escalated customer services issues and enquires; identifies and resolves staff and visitor problems, escalating to management as required.
* Provides consistent information and messaging to Tour Guides. Acts as a resource for Tour Guides by maintaining knowledge of electrical and generating system history and keeping current on new developments. Stays informed about local tourist attractions/events and encourages staff to direct visitors to such attractions.
* Supports the day to day operations of the Visitor Centre by: ensuring all audio visual and display equipment is in operating order and arranging maintenance as required; monitoring security video screens (where available) to ensure both BC Hydro facility and visitors are safe; responding to emergent maintenance issues such as display repair, emergency clean up, spills, etc.; ensuring the Visitor Centre is in good working order at season opening and winterized at end of season.
* Contacts established service providers for facility maintenance (plumber, electrician, janitor, etc.) when issues outside of the normal scheduled service arise. Checks quality of work performed by service providers to ensure work is completed to acceptable standards. Reports any issues or concerns to the Visitor Centre Manager. May oversee local work contracts.
* Performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties such as: processing invoices for payment; filing correspondence, reports and manuals; distributing mail; maintaining, compiling and preparing various records and reports such as monthly reports, survey results; ordering and maintaining stationary supplies.
* Performs duties of a minor nature, related to the above duties, which do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications:
* Completion of high school, plus experience in customer service, public speaking, giving presentations and/or leading groups, as well as experience as a supervisor or work leader.
* The successful candidate will normally have previous experience in the Tour Guide job. Satisfactory performance on the job requires approximately 3 months (at least one full season to acquire the full range of task experience) to acquire the additional knowledge/skills necessary to perform the full scope of the job.

This offer is for a position that is covered under MOU#83 of the Collective Agreement between MoveUp, Local 378 and BC Hydro.
BC Hydro's Visitor Centres educate visitors on hydroelectricity, electrical safety, energy conservation, and the regional history of BC Hydro. Tour Guides play an important role in providing a positive educational experience.
* Candidates who are familiar with the local community and Visitor Centre is considered an asset.
* Leadership experience in a customer service or tourism environment is also considered an asset.
* This is a Full-Time Temporary employment opportunity starting April 08, 2024 and ending September 06, 2024.
* The Revelstoke Dam Visitor Centre is located on Highway 23 North in Revelstoke, B.C.
* The Visitor Centre is open weekdays and weekends and the successful incumbent must be available to work on
weekends and holidays.
* Please note that public transit does not serve this location and Tour Guide Leaders must have reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
* Majority of time spent on feet and may be exposed to unpleasant sections and areas within the generating station.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
