Job Description
The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is seeking a part-time Programs Manager to plan, organize, promote, and facilitate public programs for the museum. In addition to the main duties, like all team members, the Program Manager will also assist with daily operations of the museum and visitor centre.

Responsibilities
Current programs include: Night Market (June-Sep), school programs (Nov-Dec, May-Jun), workshops, speaker series, and other events and engagement activities that inspire an appreciation of the history and cultural heritage of the Sooke Region. The position will supervise volunteers and seasonal staff who assist in program delivery.
This position reports to the Executive Director, coordinating with other team members to consider exhibits, collections management, and other key components of the organization. The position also supports the daily operations of the museum and visitor centre including assisting in the gift shop, answering visitor inquiries, opening and closing and other aspects of museum operations and other duties that may be required from time to time.
Qualifications
- Experience organizing programs and events
- Research skills and creative thinking
- Attention to detail
- Comfortable working with people of all ages, public speaking
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good working knowledge of MS Office 365
- Experience working with WordPress
- Understanding of social media platforms and marketing
- Knowledge of the role of museums and non-profit organizations
- Mandatory Police Information Check with vulnerable sector
- Food Safe, Serving it Right and First Aid, and the BC Visitor Information Counsellor training (or pass these within the first 3 months of employment)
- Experience in a museum, library, or archives setting an asset
About the museum and location
The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is operated by the Sooke Region Historical Society as a non-profit, charitable organization that opened in 1977. The region includes East Sooke to Port Renfrew, known for its rich human and natural heritage, with great outdoor experiences, but only a 40-minute drive from downtown Victoria. We are on the main bus route to Victoria.
Museum hours are typically Tuesday – Saturday (September to May) and 7 days a week (June – August).
