Museum Host Team Lead
Museum Host – Team Lead; Permanent Part-time.
The Nanaimo Museum is located in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in downtown Nanaimo on Snuneymuxw Territory.
Reporting to the Program Coordinator the primary responsibilities of the Museum Host Team Lead are to provide excellent customer service to all guests to the museum and gift shop, to deliver programming to guests of all ages, and to support operations through collaboration and leadership. Working as part of a passionate and talented team you will receive support, training and opportunities to expand your museum, leadership, and guest service skills.
Salary: $22.87/hour.
Hours: This is a permanent, year-round, part time position. 20-30 hours/week – we are looking for people with daytime availability Tuesdays – Saturdays (some Sundays and Mondays during summer season). Hours are typically 9:30-4 daily with some evenings and holidays required for special events. Some flexibility in weekly hours to suit your needs can be accommodated.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead a variety of educational programs for children. Programs may be for schools, groups, day camps, and other courses.
- Lead activities for, and facilitate, special events.
- Occasionally travel to schools, festivals and other locations to lead outreach programs for all ages.
- Participate in the development of museum programming including research, planning, promotion, training and delivery.
- Lead historical tours and programming both in the museum and the Bastion, and in other locations around Nanaimo as required.
- Host guests and share historical information in the museum gallery.
- Act as a Team Lead for student staff and volunteers, and provide museum and break coverage when required.
- Act as onsite host for daytime and after-hours rental clients.
- When required, act as Team Lead in the Gift Shop with responsibilities in cash handling, reporting, inventory, displays, reconciliations, opening and closing procedures, front line service in person and over the phone.
- Work closely with whole museum team to ensure museum service, safety, and experience standards are being met.
Position Requirements and Assets:
- Required:
- Passion for history, culture, and collaboration.
- Two to three years of customer service experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills as a team member and with the public.
- Experience leading group activities or educational programs to children and youth.
- Experience and comfort presenting to large groups of people.
- Clear and confident communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently on assigned projects.
- Capable and comfortable leading our popular downtown walking tours; as well as onsite and Bastion tours, and other programming to all ages.
- Previous cash handling experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Assets:
- Current First Aid Level 1 and CPR C.
- Experience with social media content development.
- Serving It Right.
- Bilingual.
