About the position
Under the direction of the Director, Marketing and Media Relations, the Head, Marketing & External Relations is responsible for creating and executing marketing and communications strategies that raise the overall brand and profile of the Canadian Museum of Nature (CMN), and that clearly communicate the mission of the organisation, as both a museum and a scientific institution.
The Head provides leadership across diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders at all levels, on key marketing and communications topics including web design and content, product development, science communications and events management. This work supports the Corporation’s corporate revenue and attendance goals, through marketing campaigns and programming that raise national awareness – including on communicating science to the public – and drive sales for key products.
As a key advisor, the Head also ensures the creation and timely delivery of all marketing & communications plans, public relations, and other key projects (including campaigns & programming) led by the Marketing team. The Head is a key contributor to the sustained reputation building and brand cohesion of CMN with external audiences, both in terms of the general public, local and national audiences, and key stakeholders in business, government and the science community through external relations activities.

Eligibility criteria
This position is open to all Employees of the Canadian Museum of Nature and any members of the public who meet the qualifications below.
*Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Education and training:
University education with a specialization in communications or related field such as public relations or marketing or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Language requirements:
English and French are essential.
Bilingual non-Imperative: CBC/CBC
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in conceptualizing, planning, developing, implementing and coordinating the delivery of communications/marketing strategies, plans, activities and events.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing, writing, producing and/or coordinating the production of high-quality communications/marketing products.
- Experience in identifying, developing and implementing key public and private sector partner and stakeholder opportunities.
- Experience in content marketing and/or and media/ad buying techniques, strategies and approaches, and/or social media
- Experience in working with a external creative agency or with design teams.
- Experience in leading, coordinating and participating in multi-disciplinary project teams and working with internal and external clients to develop communications/marketing projects and initiatives
- Experience in supervising; with preference for supervision of a marketing or communications team that includes a creative team responsible for social media, event management, video and design or marketing ad-buying.
- Experience with managing a budget.
Working conditions:
Individuals may be called upon at times to work evenings or weekends.
