The Royal BC Museum (RBCM) was established in 1886, making it one of the oldest continually operating museums in Canada. By exploring our human history and natural history, the Royal BC Museum advances new knowledge and understanding of British Columbia, and provides for a dynamic forum for discussion and a place for cultural reflection.
The RBCM, which includes the provincial archives, is undergoing modernization. Modernization is a complex, transformational process that not only impacts the museum’s physical presence and facilities, but also requires the museum team to undergo adaptive and technical organizational changes.
Front of House activities include the design and delivery of an annual film program for IMAX Victoria to support the Museum Mandate and corporate revenue targets, as well as management of a concession stand and food sales, theatre gift shop, and the box office. The Front of House is also responsible for the strong delivery of visitor service best practice and providing a safe and inclusive visitor experience.
Under the general direction of the VP Strategic Relations and Initiatives, this position is responsible for the programming and maintenance of a film program, film licensing agreements, and technical operations and maintenance of theatre to successfully meet the obligations and requirements of an IMAX theatre. The Manager ensures that all front of house activities are managed appropriately, including scheduling, staffing levels, performance management, visitor service, and retail operations.
Additionally, the Manager maintains relevant policies and implements related programs, projects and services designed to engage staff and visitors, and develops and implements the department plan in alignment with the organizational strategy.
Requirements include a post-secondary degree in business, hospitality management or marketing or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training and experience in the management of a theatre, hospitality and tourism management and/or experience managing a complex retail environment. This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in management, business development and sales, preferably within the theatre industry, and/or retail management and operations, food and tourism sectors of the economy. In addition, this position requires significant experience providing management within an organization, working with senior decision makers, and managing staff including food and sales employees. Experience in working with film distributers and producers is preferred.
Additional skills/abilities that would be an asset include the proven ability to take initiative, work independently, be creative and establish priorities to support business development, strong planning and organizational skills to successfully manage sales operations and support executive, and the ability to adapt to different business environments and different cultures. Negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills are also an asset, along with the ability to provide briefings, both oral and written, to peers, staff and management and work collaboratively with peers and staff to achieve goals.
