Communications Coordinator – Museum of Surrey

Museum of Surrey (MOS) is looking for a creative, collaborative, and detail-oriented Communications Coordinator with demonstrated experience in producing, coordinating, and disseminating communications and marketing materials. The Communications Coordinator plays a central role in communicating the museum’s vision and values to the public and informing them about programs, events, exhibits, and services. Reporting to the Museum Manager, this position is a public facing, senior member of the Museum team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As outlined in the museum’s annual plan, the Communications Coordinator communicates and markets programs that reflect MOS’ values of community, curiosity, engagement, connection, relevance, and stewardship and align with the museums strategic plan.

The Communications Coordinator will:

  • Organize communications and support marketing initiatives for Museum of Surrey;
  • Coordinate, write and maintain communications content for museum website and social media platforms;
  • Advise and support MOS staff on messaging and communications methods and practices;
  • Advise and edit copy for marketing content including creative writing, positioning and headline messages, tailored to specific audiences;
  • Review communications for consistency and to ensure they align with museum objectives, as well as overall City branding and strategic directions;
  • Coordinate recurring projects such as recreation guide copy, annual reports, and e-newsletters;
  • Coordinate advertising bookings for key museum initiatives, both in print, digital signage, and online;
  • Support media communications needs as required such as drafting media advisories or press releases;
  • Coordinate photography/video for marketing projects;
  • Support updating of marketing plans and status reports; and
  • Provide metrics, analytics and reports (monthly, quarterly, annually) as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate:

  • Is a great communicator and collaborator with demonstrated experience in communications, project management and writing;
  • Is a strategic thinker who sees the big picture and ensures messaging is aligned with our strategic plan and priorities;
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, creative environment and thrives at meeting deadlines and adapting to change;
  • Is able to guide projects to stay on target with key audiences;
  • Writes in plain language, is easy to understand, engaging, audience tailored, in a relevant and consistent voice and tone; and
  • Has good judgement, can prioritize and organize their workload, and is able to work independently.

Applicants under consideration will have:

  • Completed grade 12, supplemented by a diploma in Communications or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus a minimum of three years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Public sector experience in a similar role is preferred; and
  • Demonstrated written communications abilities; and
  • Knowledge of communication principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Valid BCDL with safe driving record.
