The Caetani Centre is seeking to recruit a recent graduate for placement as a Curatorial and Archival Intern for an 18-week term, starting immediately and no later than October 4th, 2022.

ABOUT THE CAETANI CENTRE: A 120+ year old designated heritage site near the downtown core of Vernon, BC, the Caetani Centre houses artifacts, digital and video presentations, and displays focusing on the mysterious royal Italian Caetani family, their historic and artistic legacy in the North Okanagan, and their fascinating story of 1920s immigration to the region. The Centre encompasses a large 6,000 sq. foot heritage home/museum and is located on a 1.3-acre park-like property used for events and programs. The property also features several studio outbuildings used by working artists and an art gallery housing the permanent collection of Sveva Caetani’s Recapitulation Series. In addition, a regional, national, and international artist and writer-in-residence program is hosted in the house and is administered by the Centre.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The ideal candidate for the position will be curious, creative, outgoing, eager to learn, and self-starting as much of the work will be project-based. The ideal candidate should additionally possess a keen interest in art, local histories, and in the educational role of museums and cultural institutions.

The Curatorial and Archival Intern will have diverse curatorial opportunities dependent on their skills and interests, including curating a display cabinet, developing museum signage, developing video material for display, and researching and developing interpretive materials in relation to Sveva Caetani’s artwork.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct archival research, arrange and digitize archives, and interpret their findings for museum presentation and databases.

Assistance with the delivery of our school tour program will additionally be required.

Relevant supervision and training will be provided to the right candidate.

Other duties may include assistance with volunteer recruiting, fundraising, public relations, event management, and business administration. General light duties for venue and garden maintenance may be required.

ABOUT YOU: The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, confidence in public speaking, an awareness of current social interests and issues, excellent communication skills, and a high attention to detail. An intermediate level understanding of the Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace is expected.

Knowledge of archival research methods, online resources, audio/visual media editing, documentation and presentation technology, website and graphic design, combined with a broad interest in the arts, culture, heritage, tourism, and community engagement would be an asset. Additional language competency would be beneficial but is not required.

Candidates should ideally have a degree in the field of History, Museum Studies, Art History, Studio Art, Archival Studies, or a related discipline, and should have a strong appreciation for the inherent value and importance of arts, culture, and heritage. To be eligible for the position, the candidate must be a recent college or university graduate.

are unemployed or underemployed;

- are a college or university graduate; and

- are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
