Executive Director

Role:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads the management and day-to-day administration of all business facets of the Gallery, including budgeting, fund-raising, marketing, publicity and public relations activities. The Executive Director is also in charge of human resource management.

Responsibilities

As part of the management team the Executive Director is responsible for assisting in overall staff team development and leadership. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversight of the management of expenditures, cash flow and investments; ensuring the accuracy of financial statements and other reports, as necessary, for the Board; and overseeing the production of annual audited financial statements,
  • Hiring, training and supervising staff, conducting performance assessments as appropriate,
  • Preparing detailed annual budgets for the Board of Directors, in consultation with department managers,
  • Preparing reports and correspondence and providing information for the board, as required,
  • Attending Board meetings, Committee meetings, opening receptions and other similar functions,
  • Preparing funding applications to municipal, provincial and federal agencies, and actively pursuing the outcomes of such applications— ensuring that all reporting requirements for each application and/or agency are fulfilled,
  • Managing and implementing fund raising activities with the Board, and in collaboration with the management team— this includes solicitation of sponsorships, researching opportunities for grants, as well the development and management of special events,
  • Managing marketing, publicity and public relations activities,
  • Directing and supervising the activities of personnel, including office and security staff, volunteers, and personnel not directed by another management position,
  • Following established Gallery policy and working with the Board and management team in the development of policy and short and long-term plans,
  • Attending community meetings and speaking engagements in support of the work of Two Rivers Gallery,
  • Facilitating the smooth functioning of the activities of Two Rivers Gallery, ensuring effective use of personnel (staff and volunteers) and materials, in concert with the management team,
  • Managing the development of Capital projects,
  • Monitoring proper and safe working conditions and building security, including security personnel,
  • Participating as a member of the Emergency Response Team,
  • Performing other duties as may be specified by the Board.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or preferably Masters degree in Business Administration, Museum Studies, Arts Administration or equivalent experience, supplemented by two years related non-profit management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting procedures including payroll, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in fund raising and grant applications.  Experience in preparation of funding proposals.

Abilities

  • Teamwork and creativity,
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in visual art,
  • Informed outlook and strong commitment to contemporary Canadian art,
  • Effective managerial and administrative skills and demonstrated skills in organization and communication, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers, including office and accounting software,
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with Board, staff, volunteers and the public,
  • Capacity to cultivate relationships and participate in all aspects of donor development,
  • Strong initiative, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team,
  • Ability to manage fundraising events and direct mail campaigns,
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, to travel, and must have a valid driver’s license,
  • Capability to develop risk analyses and balance time-cost ratios in order to pursue the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success,
  • Ability to monitor income and expenditure against the allocated budget.
