The BC Heritage Emergency Response Network (BC HERN) in partnership with Taku River Tinglit is excited to announce the following workshop:

Emergency Response and Salvage for Indigenous Communities

Dates: Thursday, October 17th

Times: 10:00am - 5:00pm

Location: Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, 1171 1st Ave, Whitehorse, YT Y1A 0G9

Target Audience: Culture sector workers, keepers of cultural heritage, museum professionals and volunteers from settler-led or Indigenous organizations who have little to no training in responding to emergencies related to collections and cultural heritage

Enrolment Limit: 24

Cost: Free (Includes catering by Sigóo)

A day of hands-on activities, demonstrations and discussions focused on the needs of Indigenous community members. This will include training on how to salvage cultural belongings such as regalia in the event of fire, flood or other disasters.

Workshop goals

  • Building confidence to engage emergency situations
  • Gaining skills in the salvage of cultural belongings and collections
  • Developing a supportive network by connecting with others in the region


Workshop agenda

The workshop will include coffee breaks and lunch, and time to get to know the BC HERN team and your fellow workshop participants.
