Reassessing your Governance with Confidence with the Canadian Museums Association

Join Rebecca and Stephanie from the Canadian Museums Association as they help you become a facilitator of the ‘Reassessing Your Governance’ toolkit. This workshop will help you feel confident in delivering the Reassessing Governance discussion session within your organization’s leadership team and be ready to support conversations about change with your organization. The CMA team will guide you through the topics and provide troubleshooting tips that will help you engage your leadership team with the material in a meaningful way.

The toolkit’s self-serve facilitated discussion is a guide for governance bodies of museums and cultural heritage institutions to develop a strategy to actively and meaningfully support Indigenous-led governance in their organization. Therefore, this workshop may be best suited to managers and board members, but we encourage interested individuals of any organizational level to attend the session to be primed and ready to support this dialogue in your organization.

By the end of the workshop, you will:

  • Be ready to confidently lead facilitation of the ‘Reassessing Your Governance’ conversation at your organization.
  • Be able to openly discuss and reflect on colonial power systems and their replication in museum leadership and governance in a tactful way.
  • Know how to help your organization build consensus on what learning is required and how your institution must change to become a site for meaningful shared and authoritative Indigenous-led governance.
  • Be able to help your organization develop approaches to incorporate meaningful Indigenous governance with decision-making authority, not simply advisory bodies.

** Please note that this workshop is only open to registered conference attendees. Additional spots may open up at a later time, please email us to inquire.**
